DSR TANKS
Between 2022 and 2025, we were engaged by McKenzie Construction and Morrison Construction on behalf of Scottish Water to undertake specialist inspection, repair, and refurbishment works to a number of DSR tanks across Scotland. The programme of works focused on maintaining the structural integrity, waterproofing performance, and operational reliability of critical water infrastructure assets. Works included high-pressure washing and the removal of existing coatings to expose concrete substrates for inspection, followed by hammer testing to identify areas of delamination, voiding, and deterioration. Identified defects were repaired through targeted concrete repair works, including the preparation and reinstatement of damaged sections to restore structural performance and durability. Additional remedial works included internal bandage repairs, extension of tank upstands to improve containment and resilience, wall head joint repairs to address potential points of water ingress, flood testing to verify the integrity and watertightness of completed repairs, and the removal and replacement of access hatches to improve safety and long-term functionality.
Due to the nature of the structures, many works were undertaken within confined space environments, requiring fully trained operatives, strict permit systems, atmospheric monitoring, rescue planning, and close adherence to health and safety procedures to ensure safe delivery within live operational assets. All materials used within potable water environments were selected in accordance with Drinking Water (DW) approval requirements, ensuring suitability for contact with drinking water and compliance with Scottish Water specifications. Through careful planning and coordination with site teams, works were completed with minimal disruption to operational services while delivering durable, long-term repair solutions for essential infrastructure assets.
