In August 2026, Anderson Specialist Contracting Ltd was commissioned to carry out specialist concrete repairs at Hatton WWTW. As part of the project, two of our operatives designed and constructed a bespoke circular shutter to create the correct shape and dimensions for the repair and securely contain the wet concrete during the pour and curing process.
Shuttering is a temporary mould used to contain wet concrete while it is poured and allowed to harden. In this case, a circular shutter was required to accurately match the dimensions of the repair, allowing the new concrete to be placed correctly and achieve a clean, consistent finish.
The shutter was constructed at our yard using timber and plywood. The team carefully measured the required diameter and dimensions before cutting and assembling the materials to create the curved form. Constructing circular shuttering requires accurate measurement, careful cutting and a good understanding of how the form will perform during the concrete pour.
The team's skilled workmanship and practical experience were important in ensuring the shutter was constructed accurately and to the required dimensions. Particular attention was given to the curved sections, with the timber and plywood carefully formed and assembled to create a strong and consistent circular shape.
Once assembled, the shutter was securely fixed and supported to prevent movement or distortion under the pressure of the wet concrete. It was then checked to ensure the required size, shape and levels had been achieved before being prepared for transport to site.
Building the shutter in advance at our yard allowed the team to complete the preparation before arriving on site, ensuring everything was ready for installation and helping the repair works progress safely and efficiently.
