SEAFIELD HOUSE
In March 2016 we were instructed to carry out concrete repairs and coatings as well as refurbish the car park at Seafield House, Aberdeen. Working closely with Rydens, Fairhurst and Bancon Construction we produced a programme of works.
The exterior of Seafield House was covered in exposed concrete aggregate panels which were in need of extensive repairs. Working closely with the product manufacturer Mapei, we were able to produce a suitable specification. This involved the removal and repair of the loose and delaminated concrete. Each elevation was then washed and with a combination of a primer and anti-carbonation coatings the substrate is then protected from damage caused by carbonation, attack from smog, salt and sunlight all whilst leaving an attractive finish which evens out the colour without hiding the surface of the structure.
The car park was worn out and the old waterproof coating was lifting from the concrete deck, allowing water penetration and the concrete to spall from the deck, leaving pot holes. In order to carry out the refurbishment of the car park we worked out a specification with the material manufacturer, Sika, which also gave the client a 15 year guarantee on the works. The entire area was prepared by means of captive blasting and the deck was coated with the Sikafloor Pronto RB-58 System.
